You see the news. You see that there are disasters throughout the world and that people are always in need of some kind of aid. Whether it be relief in the aftermath of a storm, relief for refugees around the world, or help for the homeless right here in our own country, the Red Cross donation center near you can give you the opportunity to help.

What many people may not realize is that the Red Cross relies on the generous donations of people from around the world. It truly takes many boots on the ground to aid in the suffering of Humankind at any given moment of any given day. For these people to do this good work, those of us who are on the sidelines have a way of getting in the game without doing much more than giving away things we no longer use.

If you have ever wanted to do something to help someone else but didn’t know where to begin, here are three steps you can take to make a difference in someone else’s life.

1.) Collect your unwanted clothing.

Go through your house and collect all of the clothing and textiles you no longer use. There has to be something in your closet that you think you will get around to wearing again at some point but you know you never will. If you find something and you think it won’t be any good, it will. The textiles can find another life. People throw away over 10 pounds of clothing every year., according to the EPA. All they need to do is make a call or two to find out where it can benefit someone in need.

2.) Find a donation center like the Red Cross donation center and take your things to them.

are a very big part of how the Red Cross raises money for the work that they do. The clothing and textiles are resold or repurposed and then resold to raise money for the charity itself. A clothing donation center near you will help you put a value on what it is you are bringing into them. When you bring in your items, you will receive a receipt that you can use in order to receive your tax deduction. The donation will be tax deductible on that year’s tax return. Just keep that receipt and you are all set.

3.) Fell good that you have made a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate than yourself.

The American Red Cross is on the job 24/7, 365 days out of the year, providing relief for families and communities. The Red Cross donation center in your area is the starting point for giving the Red Cross the ability to provide blankets, food, blood, shelter and many other resources for those who are in need.

Unfortunately, the one thing that will always remain true is the fact that there will always be some kind of suffering in the world. But, if you are like most people, you want to do something about that. You want to be able to make a difference but you just aren’t sure how big a difference you could actually make.

If you take a look around you home, particularly in your clothing closets, you might be very surprised to find many things you could offer. Begin with your coats. How many of them do you own? If you are like most people, you probably have one that you wear all of the time and two or three more that you never wear. You think you might get around to wearing them again, but you never do. Consider dropping the unwanted coats off at the Red Cross donation center near you. You never know who might be able to make a great use of it.

Go to your clothes closets next. Be honest with yourself about what you wear and what you don’t. The Red Cross donation center could turn the pants and shirts you never wear into money that can buy provisions for the family who is temporarily homeless because a tornado took their only home.

You can make a difference and a very meaningful one at that.
