In Texas, their land is worth almost as much to them as their pride.

Christopher Scott Kyle, a United States Navy SEAL and sniper with the most kills in U.S. military history — over 160 — was murdered by a disgruntled veteran on February 2, 2013.

A Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza is scheduled to open this July featuring a bronze statue of the Navy SEAL and American Sniper author.

Four trees from George W. Bush’s Texas ranch will be included in the memorial.

The trees, which are more than $3,000 each, were purchased from Bush’s ranch and were planted in Odessa, Texas, where Kyle was born.

According to The Guardian, Architect Kelly Cook said the trees are symbols of patriotism.

“There’s a lot of hidden symbolism behind the other elements that are going to be in the plaza,” Cook said. “A lot of that were are going to reveal at the dedication.”

The memorial will also feature a limestone from a Garden City quarry engraved with the names of all 50 states and woven into a Navy SEAL trident.

Kyle’s family members, including his wife, Taya Kyle, had provided input to the project.

Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield were shot and killed in 2013 at a shooting range in Texas. Eddie Ray Rough, a former marine was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murders.

Kyle is not only an American hero but a larger-than-life icon in Texas. The trees from the former president’s ranch may not be symbolic to everyone in the world, but for the people of Texas, their land is sacred.
