Organic Textiles How to Live in Harmony

Linens

A buzzword. The symbolic nature of our society. Void of ailments–cancer causing metals, body altering additives, dirty pesticides.

Organic.

The health of our society–prevalence of death-inducing ills like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, chronic illnesses–allowed rise for the health-conscious man, woman, and non-binary individual: a focus on clean products, food or otherwise.

Organic means the following:

  • Ecologically diverse farming practices
  • Restricted use of pesticides
  • Reusing and cycling resources
  • Promoting diversity

And the following: An attempted balance between man and nature, it’s cohabitant; giving to society rather than taking profit from it; and purification of the human muscles, tissues, cells, and body, towards a more peaceful existence with our purchased products; less disease; more growth; less decay.

Organic food is found at:

  • Chain grocery stores, often at a specific section for organically grown food
  • Niche stores, for instance Whole Foods and Trader Joes
  • The local farmers’ market; where produce is often organically cultivated
  • Farms themselves; more and more are signing up for the organic movement

Tomatoes. Cabbage. Carrots. Herbs. And even textile products, such as cotton.

Organic means much more than food consumed at the table. Farming products, from coffee beans to pumpkins to cotton, can be considered organic. Ecological diversity and lack of pesticides. What many thought of as breakthroughs–processed food–to see later as ills.

Cotton is a rare entry into the organic market. The growth of organic produce, of fruit, or herbs, has filled the national consciousness. Cotton is not well-known. But the effects of cotton, free of pesticides, is growing in research every day.

Here are some statistics:

  • In the United States, 42% of adults get less than seven hours sleep. Seven hours is less than the guidelines for adults–which call for seven to nine hours every night.
  • 85% of people rated comfortable sheets and bedding as important to quality of sleep.

There is a rise between research into cotton free of pesticides and America’s sleep problems. The focal point: organic cotton sheets.

Organic sheets, a definition of which is a sheet made of organic material such as cotton, have started to gain popularity. While many companies producing organic cotton sheets are less large than corporations, in general, the industry is experiencing an up-swing:

  • 38% of 1,000 millennial shoppers said they “responded positively” to environmentally friendly products
  • One-third of customers are buying brands based on social and environmental impact
  • And this
  • Sales of organic non-food products in the U.S. rose up 8.8% in 2016

It is a necessity. Organic king sheets, organic queen sheets, organic twin sheets are void of harmful chemicals. Metals, which can cause radiation in the skin and organs, are present in some other bed sheets; in organic sheets, they are not. Organic sheets–whether organic king sheets or other–allow Americans to get a stronger night’s sleep. More hours slept. Fewer tosses and fewer turns.

Sellers of organic sheets are often more eco-friendly than other sellers. They are more likely to give back to the community. They represent the new values of society–a harmony with nature, society, and the human body.

A good example of organic sheets lies in the organic king sheets: They have a thread count higher than many; they were certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard; and they have avoided the effects of pesticides and harmful metals.

Organic textiles will grow in popularity. The choice is yours.
