Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior : A companion to the book that changes lives
By Dan Millman

Published by New World Library

Thirty years ago, Dan Millman first introduced us to his shaman mentor, Socrates, in his book Way of the Peaceful Warrior. But he never directly addressed many questions posed or issues raised from his classic best seller. Shedding new light on more than 100 of the book's most interesting passages, Millman explores the key ideas behind each of the elements, revealing their development in spiritual philosophies. By demonstrating an evolving sensibility and perspective, he discusses the most mysterious passages, drawing practical lessons that readers can apply to their everyday lives.

Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior is perhaps Millman's clearest contribution to his body of work. Addressing passages from his book that range from paradoxical to fundamental, he offers readers the realistic insight and practical wisdom that we have come to know from his writings. Wisdom is perfectly suited for everyone seeking to navigate his/her way through a sea of confusion to a more meaningful life. Whether you are a loyal reader or new to his work, Millman's latest book will deepen your experience of life and reveal how to live with a peaceful heart and a warrior spirit.

The Times of Our Lives: Extraordinary True Stories of Synchronicity, Destiny, Meaning and Purpose
By Louise L. Hay and Friends

Published by Hay House

The Times of Our Lives: Extraordinary True Stories of Synchronicity, Destiny, Meaning, and Purpose is a book of true experiences. It is an anthology of miracles, reminiscences and heart-warming personal accounts written by some of our favorite authors. Louise Hay, Wayne Dwyer, John Edward, Eric Pearle, Ben Stein, Jim Brickman, Sylvia Browne and others share very personal stories that are humorous, heart breaking or life changing. By having these renowned writers share some of their private moments, it helps us to realize that our lives are not much different, and that we, too, can grow from their examples.

For example, Carnie Wilson, the daughter of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, talks about how she found the love she felt was always denied her, as well as overcoming the weight problem she had all her life. Esther and Jerry Hicks share how Esther became a channel for the entities called Abraham, and how reluctant she was to even consider anything of a spiritual nature. Ben Stein reminisces about his father, and Doreen Virtue tells us how she connected with the love of her life, 30 years after first meeting him when they were kids.

This is a wonderful book that you may not be able to put down, or you might find yourself just reading a bit at a time over coffee at breakfast. You will laugh; you will cry, and you will connect. But hopefully, through this collection of fine authors' stories, you also will find yourself.

The Power of a Positive No
By William Ury

Published by Bantam Books

Do you feel that countless demands are made of you from family, friends and your boss? Do you find yourself agreeing to things to which you really do not want to, yet find the things you value taking a backseat? If so, then William Ury's The Power of a Positive No is a book that may help you change this.

Ury's book is divided into two sections. In the first, he explains that the majority of people currently operate unhappily because they continuously say “yes” when asked to do something. He explains the reasons behind the need to say yes, and also shares how this contributes to an unhealthy way of life. Throughout the remainder of the book, Ury empowers the reader with the ability to say “no.” He does this by introducing a simple, easy to remember, three-step formula. This formula ensures that no one involved in the situation will walk away with hurt feelings. Instead Ury's method of “yes, no, yes” makes sure both people are standing on common ground by the end of their dialogue.

Even if you are a person who is quick to say “no,” and has no problem doing it, you still can benefit from this book. Ury assists these readers by helping them unearth their interests, needs and values. In order to live a happier, less stressful life with more long-lasting friendships, I encourage you to read The Power of a Positive No.

Stress Reduction for Busy People
By Dawn Groves

Published by New World Library

Stress comes in many forms. It can be caused by worry, information overload, a long to-do list or a physical or social fear. Removing all stressors in our lives may alleviate back pain, insomnia, heartburn and increased blood pressure. However, Dawn Groves, author of Stress Reduction for Busy People, realizes that this is unrealistic. Therefore, Groves gives suggestions, for both children and adults, to use both preventatively and in the middle of a crisis.

Groves offers suggestions such as creating a daily strategy to combat your fears or slowing down to express your feelings, because she knows “inner peace exists outside of time.” When these strategies are not possible, Groves suggests methods to reduce symptoms of stress such as the inability to sleep well.

This short, bulleted guidebook is full of many additional facts and suggestions. I am sure you will find suggestions within these pages that will work for you. Groves is also the author of Meditation for Busy People, which she refers to throughout this book as she believes meditation has a strong connection to stress reduction.
